The industry continued to rise, yarn and clothing production fell year-on-year. From January to May, the industrial added value of textile enterprises above designated size increased by 4.8% year-on-year, and the operating income was 1.9013 billion yuan, an increase of 6.4% year-on-year; Total profit was 56.5 billion yuan, up 27.3 percent year on year. The output of yarn and clothing of enterprises above designated size decreased by 1.3% and 3.2% respectively, while the output of cloth and chemical fiber increased by 2.5% and 2.7% respectively.

Market demand increased steadily, and retail consumption maintained growth. From January to May, the total retail sales of consumer goods by units above designated size nationwide reached 7,385.8 billion yuan, up by 4.0% year-on-year, of which the retail sales of clothing, shoes and hats and textile products by units above designated size increased by 2.0% year-on-year, and the online retail sales of physical goods increased by 9.0% year-on-year.

The international market is basically stable, and the foreign trade situation has improved. From January to May, China's textile and apparel exports totaled 115.8 billion US dollars, an increase of 1.4% year-on-year. In May, textile and apparel exports to the world were $26.1 billion, up 4.7% year on year.
