How is high-strength nylon industrial filament produced? This article thoroughly explains the process.

Raw materials and melt extrusion

high-strength nylon industrial filament is made from nylon pellets as the basic raw material. In the early production stage, the pellets are dried to reduce the internal moisture of the raw materials, avoiding hydrolysis during high-temperature processing and affecting the mechanical properties of the finished product. The dried pellets are sent to the extruder, where they are heated and gradually melted and plasticized in the barrel to form a uniform and stable melt. The melt passes through a filtration device to remove impurities and gel particles, preventing subsequent blockage of the spinneret and reducing the risks of broken and broken filaments.

Spinning and drawing and setting

The melt is transported to the spinning box, precisely metered by the spinning metering pump and sent to the spinning component. From the micro holes of the spinneret, the initial filament is extruded. The newly extruded filament has a high temperature and an unstable structure, and needs to undergo cooling and blowing to uniformly cool and solidify the filament.

The initial filament itself has limited strength, and the high-strength performance mainly relies on the multi-stage drawing process. The filament bundle is gradually stretched on the drawing equipment, with the molecular chains orderly arranged along the force direction, thereby enhancing the strength of the fiber. After the drawing process, a heat setting treatment is carried out to eliminate the internal stress of the fiber and reduce the probability of later shrinkage and deformation, ensuring dimensional stability.

Oiling, winding and post-inspection

The drawn filament bundle passes through the oiling device to evenly attach the spinning oil agent, reducing friction between the filament strands and between the filament bundle and the equipment, suppressing static electricity, and improving the adhesion of the filament bundle. After processing, it is wound into a tube by the winding machine to obtain the raw filament. After the winding is completed, it also needs to undergo appearance and performance inspection, screening out the rolls with color differences, broken filaments, or poor formation, and storing the qualified products for supply to downstream fields such as webbing, cables, and safety protection.

Process summary

The entire process is closely interrelated. Drying, filtration, stretching, and setting are the key steps in creating high-strength nylon industrial filaments. The process conditions of stretching and heat setting directly determine the strength and shrinkage properties of the fibers. For industrial yarns with different applications, the process parameters will be adjusted to meet the usage requirements of downstream products such as ropes, lifting equipment, and protective products.
